Asakura Kyogaku travels to Suwon, Korea

July 17, 2026 Events

Asakura Kyogaku is crossing the sea to Suwon, Korea. As part of a performance delegation from Fukui City, we will appear on the international sister-city arts stage and in the Hwaseong Fortress parade over four days, from 2 to 5 October 2026.

The songs and dances born in Ichijodani will travel overseas for the first time.

Joining the Hwaseong Fortress parade

On Sunday 4 October we take part in the parade at Hwaseong Fortress, held as the procession preceding King Jeongjo’s royal tomb visit (Neunghaengcha). Before it sets off, each team performs for around three minutes near Janganmun Gate, and then joins the procession.

Hwaseong Fortress is a fortress of the Joseon dynasty and a UNESCO World Heritage site. We will perform work born of Ichijodani — a place still working toward World Heritage inscription — within the walls of a fortress that already holds it.

International sister-city arts stage

At around 18:30 on Saturday 3 October we appear on the stage bringing together arts groups from Suwon’s international sister cities.
