Live today from 13:30: walking the Ichijodani Asakura Family Historic Ruins with our celebrated guide

Today, Tuesday 21 April 2026, from 13:30, we will be streaming “Walking the Ichijodani Asakura Family Historic Ruins with our celebrated guide” live online.

In the Sengoku period the Ichijodani Asakura Family Historic Ruins flourished as the heart of Echizen. In this valley ringed by mountains, excavation has brought the townscape of the day back into the present, and it welcomes visitors still, as quietly as ever. Today the site holds a rare triple designation as a Special Historic Site, a Special Place of Scenic Beauty and an Important Cultural Property, and it is working towards inscription as a World Heritage Site.

Your guide: Kiyoshi Kishida, our celebrated guide

Showing us round is Kiyoshi Kishida, chairman of Creative ASUWA, who has guided visitors at Ichijodani for many years. His deep knowledge of the site and his vivid, unscripted commentary as he walks the ground are not to be missed. This time he takes the route from the Asakura Residence site to the gardens, telling the story of five generations of the Asakura family along with episodes you will not find in any guidebook — all with the immediacy that only a live broadcast can offer.
