Light for Ichijodani. Let us create a historical romance woven from tradition and music.

What is the historical romance show “Asakura Kyogaku”?

The Ichijodani Asakura Family Historic Ruins, in Fukui City, Fukui Prefecture, are the remains of a city that in the Sengoku era flourished as a centre of culture said to surpass Kyoto itself.
To advance World Heritage inscription for this Special Historic Site, Creative ASUWA runs Asakura Kyogaku, an entertainment show that fuses music, traditional dance, contemporary dance and theatre, and through it works to raise the profile of the ruins.

In this project we recreate the popular culture that flowered in the time of the Sengoku lord Asakura Yoshikage, as a 45-minute historical romance show combining modern pop with classical performing arts (shamisen, flute, classical rakugo and more).
We have written and perform songs inspired by the ruins, including ♪ Appare Itozakura, ♪ Asakura Yokai Ondo and ♪ The Tale of Aiomaru.
In time we plan to tour outside the prefecture and establish the show as a tool for attracting visitors.

Why we need your support now

The Ichijodani Asakura Family Historic Ruins are one of only six places in Japan to hold all three national designations at once — Special Historic Site, Special Place of Scenic Beauty and Important Cultural Property. The other five, among them Kinkaku-ji and Itsukushima Shrine, are already World Heritage sites, which makes building momentum for early inscription an urgent task.
Through this project we share what makes Ichijodani remarkable, from our home in Fukui to the rest of Japan and on to the world.
Your support lets us strengthen a show that brings a lost culture back to life, raise the profile of the site, and press forward with World Heritage inscription.

Where your support goes

The funds we receive go toward the following, improving the quality of the performance and its power to draw an audience.

  • Writing the script and structure
  • Producing new music
  • Vocal training
  • Staging and direction
  • Producing a promotional video
  • Performers’ fees

Our goal was 1.5 million yen, with the project running until 28 February 2026.
The crowdfunding campaign closed at 23:00 on 15 December 2025.
